When the door flings open on your cable car…

In the late 1970s I rode the cable car/skyway at the Sydney Royal Easter Show with my family.

This ride was like no other that I experienced as, shortly after we left one side, the door flung open and remained open until we reached the other side! For those who rode it, you will remember it was a long trip especially with the constant pauses to let everyone off.

So leading into 2019 and reflecting on what was modeled in that cable car, here are three thoughts that I know will add value to your 2019

1. High emotion = low intelligence.

It doesn’t mean you’re a dope. It means that the more we get worked up the more likely we sabotage our intellectual faculties. Problem solving and decision making flourishes with cool heads. This is my fond recollection of my father that day and other scenarios like when I was riding a horse that lost it bridle at full gallop. This leads me to the next one…

2. Who you ride with matters.

The power of association determines what condition you end up at the other side.

My father was sitting opposite me and my Mum was to my right. The door was on mine and my father’s side. He simply put his foot up on my seat and his leg formed a bar across the doorway. He told me to stay seated and enjoy the view. Inner circle audits are crucial and year end reviews are another perfect time for this.

Who is riding in the car with you?

3. Celebrate all wins.

Some take great pleasure that you looked likely to fall.
Some only want to know you when it seems you are “on top”.
Others laugh AND cry with you.

WHO YOU LEARN FROM MATTERS!

For more than 20 years I have been on a personal growth journey with John Maxwell mentoring me from afar via his books, CDs etc.

Now I am so fortunate to be mentored by John.

I was so glad I had pen handy when I was in the room with him in Florida. You see, words are powerful & creative.

So what did John say that day?

I see you as a transformational leader …someone who influences people to think , speak , act in such a way that it brings positive difference in their life and the lives of others

Sometimes you have to borrow another’s belief in you to get traction….that’s why it is so important who is in your inner circle.

I encourage you to take a moment today to intentionally audit who you allow to speak into your life.
